October 20, 2021 – Biden Admin Flying Thousands of Immigrant Kids into New York
The story unfolding right now that you may not know much about. The big question tonight, where are those unaccompanied minors going once they do arrive here? News 4 Long Island reporter Greg Sergals live in Syosset where some of those children were taken.
Where the Unaccompanied Minors are Taken
The immigrant kids are being housed here at a nonprofit complex for abused and neglected kids brought here after a flight into Westchester Airport, a journey that prompted today some political and practical questions for the Biden administration.
Video of Westchester Airport – Scene, the Former County Executive Says, has Become Commonplace of Immigrant Kids
Immigrant kids flown in from the southern border by the Biden administration. These flights have been landing in Westchester since April. Now, at the time, there were smaller planes, from at least August, probably back to July. These are now big flights. These are 737s. Rob Astorino says he took this airport video himself to document the influx of so-called unaccompanied minors. In fact, two senior U.S. officials tell News 4 the numbers arriving here in the U.S. are the largest in 15 years.
Congressmen Frustrated and Speak Out
Today, Long Island Congressman Tom Swasey said to the Biden administration, “we need to know what’s going on.” As of June, he says, some 2,500 unaccompanied minors have been moved to Queens and Long Island alone, with 50 being housed at this facility in Syosset. We need to know how many kids are coming. Which school districts are the immigrant kids going to? What can we do to get resources, get money for our school districts to help address this new influx? Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin took the criticism a step further, saying the shadiness and lack of transparency from the Biden administration is completely unacceptable.
Jen Psaki White House Secretary Comment
It is our legal responsibility to safely care for unaccompanied minors until they swiftly can be swiftly unified with a parent or a vetted sponsor.
The Cover Up Lie of Moving these Kids to a Family Member or a “Sponsor”
These flights, the administration says, are the first steps in the process leading to a new life for all these immigrant kids. Now, the immigrant kids will stay here in Syosset for about two months until they’re moved to a home of either a family member or a sponsor. The facility itself declined comment today, but Congressman Swazi assured us that no one with gang ties was being housed here. Although this facility has had some issues in the past with runaways, Swazi expected no problems with the immigrants now living here. We’re live in Syosset. Greg Sergel, News 4 New York.
